WEST BURLINGTON SWIMMING POOL

POOL CLOSING POLICY

 

The City, at its sole discretion, reserves the right to close the West Burlington Municipal Pool for the safety of our patrons and staff.  These closures are often necessary to maintain compliance with safety standards and to address immediate risks or operational needs.  The manager or his/her designated replacement determines whether to close the pool due to inclement weather. The public’s health and safety are the only considerations in making this determination.

 

POOL CLOSING POLICY

 

  1. INCLEMENT WEATHER
    1. The pool will be CLOSED IMMEDIATELY if lightning is visible or if severe weather warnings are in effect
    2. If the TORNADO WARNING SIREN sounds, all patrons will be requested to remain at the pool and seek shelter in the bathhouse area. All children who are unaccompanied by an adult and employees will be REQUIRED to seek shelter in the bathhouse area.
    3. When the air temperature is below 65 at the time of opening and is not predicted to reach 70 by mid-afternoon. 

 

  1. LOW ATTENDANCE RELATED TO WEATHER CONDITIONS

The pool may be closed if fewer than 10 patrons are using the facility during any one-hour period.   Patrons will receive a one-hour notice that the facility will be closing. No refund will be issued due to early closure.

 

  1. MAINTENANCE/CHEMICAL IMBALANCE OR CONTAMINATION

Closure for maintenance or water chemical balance issues, contamination concerns, or equipment failures related to water quality.

 

  1. REGULATORY OR LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

Closures mandated by health department orders, safety regulations, or legal directives impacting pool operations.

 

  1. ACCIDENTS OR EMERGENCIES

Closure resulting from accidents (e.g., slips, falls) or medical emergencies requiring immediate attention and clearing of the pool area.

 

RE-OPENING POLICY 

If the West Burlington Municipal Pool is closed due to inclement weather or low temperatures early in the day, the pool will stay closed until 3:00 p.m. At that time, a decision will be made whether to reopen the facility or stay closed for the remainder of the day.
